There are four new cases of Covid-19 today, including another Pakistani cricketer.
Today’s update reveals a seventh case among the national cricket team on tour.
“An additional member of the Pakistan cricket team has tested positive today during routine tests,” the Health Ministry said.
“The rest of the team’s day 3 swab test results, apart from the six that already tested positive, are negative.”
The Pakistan team will undergo tests on the sixth. They were still prohibited from training due to several players breaking isolation rules.
“The exemption to train while in managed isolation is suspended pending the Canterbury DHB health medical officer deems they are satisfied that the training is unlikely to transmit Covid-19,” the ministry said.
This continued consideration was expected to last until at least early next week.
“In accordance with customary protocols, the latest case has been interviewed and close contacts, including flight contacts, have been contacted or are in the process of being contacted.
“All those who arrived on the same flight as the Pakistan cricket team are currently in an MIQ facility for their 14 days in isolation.
As announced yesterday, any team member identified as close contact would not qualify for the exemption, as there is a risk that they could transmit Covid-19 to their teammates. “
Three other cases
Two cases reported today arrived on November 23 from the United States and tested positive during routine tests around the third day. Both patients were transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.
The third case arrived from the United States on November 26 and was tested upon arrival because it was symptomatic. The person was also transferred to the Auckland quarantine facility.
There are now 69 active cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand.
Regarding the Air New Zealand crew member who tested positive, of the 18 close contacts identified now, all but one tested negative.
“The ministry and the Auckland Regional Public Health Service are working together to organize testing for final close contact.”
Today, the Ministry of Health also reiterated the need for shoppers visiting stores to take advantage of the Black Friday weekend deals to stay tuned.
“Anyone who is going to make the most of Black Friday sales over the weekend should remember to scan with the NZ Covid Tracer app to keep a private record of their movements.”
Clients should also wear a mask in places where they cannot physically distance themselves from others and wash and sanitize their hands regularly.
“As always, if you are unwell, stay home and seek advice on getting tested – you can still shop online while keeping your community safe.”
Yesterday there were seven new cases of Covid-19 in managed isolation, but this figure included six Pakistani cricketers who had already been announced.
The only new case arrived in New Zealand today on November 23 and tested positive during routine tests on day three in controlled isolation.
It had already come to light that six members of the Pakistan cricket team, who are in managed isolation in Christchurch prior to their New Zealand tour, tested positive for Covid-19 upon arrival in New Zealand.
