Passengers have adopted many strange methods amid the global Covid-19 pandemic.

From wearing plastic suits aboard an airplane, to multiple face shields in an attempt to block out any virus particles, but this new measure is perhaps the strangest yet.

According to CNN, on November 25, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) released new guidelines for the country’s airline industry, which it oversees.

The internal document, called Technical Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Epidemics for Airlines, Sixth Edition, contains advice on the best hygiene practices to be carried out in aircraft and airports.

However, one of the suggestions has surprised some.

In an attempt to limit bathroom breaks, the recommendation is that certain personnel, such as cabin crew, wear adult diapers so they don’t need to use the bathroom.

“It is recommended that cabin crew members wear disposable diapers and avoid using the toilets except in special circumstances to avoid risk of infection,” it said.

According to the document, “medical masks, double-layer disposable medical gloves, goggles, disposable hats, disposable protective clothing and disposable shoe covers” were some of the other PPE recommendations.

Along with employee changes, other tips for flights include dividing the cabin into a “clean area, buffer zone, passenger seating area and quarantine area”, separated by disposable curtains. The document suggested that the last three rows should be designated as an emergency quarantine area.
