Daisy Chang restaurant in Auckland has created dining rooms to maintain social distancing at alert level 2.
An Auckland restaurant has discovered a new way to maintain social distance between diners during the coronavirus pandemic.
Daisy Chang at Howick, which specializes in Asian street food, has created barriers between dining rooms with ribbed plastic sheeting.
The companies reopened Thursday morning when the government removed numerous restrictions and moved the country to alert level 2.
Co-founder Carmen Holmes said that while she was careful about social estrangement, she wanted to add an element of joy to the Covid-19 situation.

“We were looking for ways to maintain social distance and everyone was having such a bad time that we just wanted to give it a fun spin,” he said.
“We have only changed two booths at the moment, but they are in demand, so we are looking to do the others. The children really seem to like them, and we have also enjoyed an elderly couple.”
The barriers are made of Corflute, which is the industry name for corrugated polypropylene, a ribbed plastic that is lightweight but stiff.
The total cost of the evaluation was $ 120.
The nation began the movement to alert Level 2 Thursday morning with restaurants, shopping malls, cinemas, shops, health services, and hairdressers allowed to reopen.
Shopping malls and main streets got off to a slow start with only a handful of people entering the Westfield Newmarket shopping center in Auckland, but others in the city reported busier evenings.
Elsewhere in the food sector, McDonald’s and KFC outlets will see a gradual return to in-store meals below Alert Level 2.
McDonald’s said it was still working to finalize plans for what Tier 2 would look like for its restaurants, but the move would see a staggered reopening of dining services and take-away facilities.
Similarly, KFC said it would take a “phased approach” to opening orders at the store, but would not offer dinner below level 2.
