The Director General of Health is ready to announce how many cases of coronavirus have been detected on the first day after the 2020 general elections.
The Labor government’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic was attributed, in part, by political commentators to the Labor Party’s landslide victory in Saturday’s election.
At 1pm Sunday, Dr. Ashley Bloomfield will provide an update on the latest coronavirus cases in New Zealand.
As voters headed to the polls on Saturday, three new cases were detected in controlled isolation.

A landmark case in Wellington announced by the ministry on Friday that was not yet counted in official case numbers will also be reported in Sunday’s official count.
In total, 1,883 confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus had been found in New Zealand, 40 of which were active as of Saturday.
As the number of New Zealand cases has decreased over the past month, the Health Ministry has provided daily updates in written statements most days rather than via press conferences.
A live stream of Bloomfield’s announcement will be posted on Stuff, along with the latest information.
