A new patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now, but the update process for your game on the console this week will be slightly different than usual. Developer Infinity Ward has divided the update into two separate downloads, one of which will need to be started manually after opening the game. This is what you can expect the next time you launch Modern Warfare on PS4 or Xbox One.
The first part will normally download to the console of your choice, either update automatically or launch as soon as you try to start the game when the patch is released. From there, you’ll need to start the game and access any mode outside of Warzone (Campaign, Multiplayer, or Spec-Ops). When you hover over any of these, the game will display a message asking you to “install multiplayer mode” (or the mode you have selected). Selecting that takes you to another screen that lists the various components of Modern Warfare, and selecting Data Pack 1 will direct you to the additional download.
On Xbox One, the initial upgrade was 12GB, while Data Pack 1 was 18GB. That should give you time to review the patch notes for the new CoD update.
When both downloads complete, you’ll need to restart Modern Warfare for them to take effect. If you’re only playing Warzone, the free Battle Royale mode, you won’t have to start this second download, as it only applies to paid content that is part of the Modern Warfare base package.
This week’s update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is extensive, including a new contract in Warzone called Most Wanted, a playlist update that recovers fan-favorite 24/7 shipping matches, and the ability to mix and match weapon planes.
