Speaking to reporters from the press conference room just after 12:30 pm New Zealand time today, Trump repeated false claims that he had won many states only to have the results “come down.”
Cooper had harsh words for Trump after the speech.
“That’s the president of the United States. That’s the most powerful person in the world. We see him as an obese turtle on his back flailing in the blazing sun, realizing that his time is up.”
The three major television networks in the United States walked away from the speech when the president began making false claims, according to The New York Times.
“We have to interrupt here, because the president has made a number of false statements, including the idea that there have been fraudulent votes,” said NBC’s Lester Holt. “There has been no evidence of that.”
CBS’s Norah O’Donnell stepped in to ask correspondent Nancy Cordes to verify Trump’s claim that if “legal votes” were counted, he would easily win the election. Cordes said there is no indication of a substantial number of illegal votes cast, and said Trump’s reference to late votes is “another falsehood.”
MSNBC parted ways with Trump to introduce Brian Williams.
