‘Clearly sharknado’: bull shark swims in Gold Coast backyards after floods

A bull shark was reportedly spotted in flood waters near a Queensland man’s back fence after a week of wild weather caused flash flooding in the area.

The wild photo has been shared more than 1,400 times on Facebook and attracted hundreds of comments.

“Another wild day on the Gold Coast,” the resident wrote on Facebook, sharing the photo.

“Bull shark in Burleigh Waters backyard”.

The shark had reportedly found its way into a channel in Burleigh Waters, which had swelled after heavy rains in the area.

“How did it get there? Clearly sharknado,” joked one commenter.

“North QLD gets crocs, Gold Coast gets bull sharks,” wrote one man.

“This little Burleigh Heads is enjoying his new pond.”

“I was fishing near there with my grandson last year and something big took his hook and his line ran out. I didn’t think much of that at the time. Don’t think I’d be swimming near there anytime soon.” another man wrote.

But some were not entirely convinced, and one man suggested that it looked like a “palm leaf” floating on water.

The Queensland Bureau of Meteorology yesterday issued a severe storm warning for the state, which included the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and the Scenic Rim.

The bureau predicted storms with heavy rain, which could lead to flash flooding, along with heavier periods of rain in the afternoon.

Burleigh Waters received 104mm of rain in the past 24 hours.
