Seeking his first Prada Cup series win, Barker’s American Magic maintained the lead entering the fifth gate, however his streak of misfortunes continued with his AC75 finishing on his side after a daring turn.
Turning quickly towards the door, American Magic suffered a sudden gust that sent the ship through the air and eventually capsized the ship on its side.
Luna Rossa would not have to end the race with the officers retiring the race while Dean Barker’s crew clung to their overturned boat.
The New York Yacht Club Twitter account posted a tweet confirming that the entire crew was safe.
