Fire and Emergency is calling on campers heading to the beach and outdoors to bring a smoke alarm along with their sleeping gear.

Pete Gallagher, the National Fire Risk Advisor, says that hanging a smoke alarm in a tent or caravan is quick and easy, and they are lightweight to carry in a pack.

“This is a vitally essential safety device. This is not about bringing a queen-size waterbed on your camping trip. This is a vital safety feature that will keep you, your family, and your loved ones safe.”
