A terrible mistake by All Whites forward Chris Wood didn’t stop Burnley from clinching an unexpected English Premier League victory over Arsenal.
Wood should have put the visitors in front in London on Monday morning (New Zealand time) after 13 minutes, but he put in a deflected header when he was not marked from close range.
However, the struggling hosts were reduced to 10 men in the 57th minute when midfielder Granit Xhaka was sent off and Burnely scored what turned out to be the winner 16 minutes later via an own goal by Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
It was the fourth consecutive loss at home for Arsenal, who fell to 15th place on the ladder with 13 points. The victory, Burnley’s first away from home this season, knocked them out of the relegation zone.
