British nurse Lucy Letby charged with the murder of eight babies in a UK hospital

A British nurse was charged this week with murdering eight babies and attempting to kill 10 others at a hospital in north-west England.

Cheshire police said 30-year-old Lucy Letby was charged following an investigation into the deaths in the neonatal unit at Countess of Chester hospital, south of Liverpool.

The force said the nurse faced eight counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder related to the period from June 2015 to June 2016.

Police launched an investigation into the deaths of several babies at the hospital in May 2017.

Letby was arrested Tuesday for the third time in connection with the deaths.

Cheshire police said Lucy Letby was charged following an investigation into the deaths at the Countess of Chester hospital neonatal unit.

She was previously arrested in 2018 and 2019 and each time she was released on bail pending further investigation, without being charged.

Police said Letby was in custody and would appear in court on Thursday.
