Fireworks light up the night in Auckland.
New Zealanders bid farewell to 2020, welcoming the new year with celebrations across the country.
Auckland’s night sky was filled with color as a five-minute fireworks display and light show lit up the city to mark New Year’s Day.
The Harbor Bridge was also lit up to celebrate the start of 2021.
Wellington welcomed 2021 with live music, kai, and midnight fireworks, and The Black Seeds helped Christchurch celebrate the new year in style, headlining a concert in North Hagley Park that culminated with a fireworks display.

Dunedin, Queenstown, Gisborne, Wānaka and other centers also have their own celebrations to mark the occasion, with the participation of countless Kiwis from around the country.
The festivities are notable in that they are much like business as usual, at a time when much of the world is facing severe gathering restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In addition to the fun start to 2021, Kiwis have a lot to look forward to this year, including travel bubbles, coronavirus shots, and more.
