Boris Johnson and Symonds have baby

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his partner, Carrie Symonds, announced the birth of a “healthy baby” at a London hospital.

Both the mother and baby are doing very well after the early birth on Wednesday (local time), their spokesperson said.

“The Prime Minister and Mrs Symonds are delighted to announce the birth of a healthy baby in a London hospital earlier this morning.

“Prime Minister and Ms. Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.”

Johnson, 55, and Symonds, 32, announced in March that they were expecting a baby in early summer and that they were engaged late last year.

The news of the birth comes just weeks after Johnson was released from intensive care where he had been battling the coronavirus.

Symonds also suffered symptoms of the disease.

Johnson has previously suggested that he intends to take paternity leave, although it is not known if this is still the case given the coronavirus crisis.

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock tweeted: “I am so excited for Boris and Carrie. Wonderful to have a moment of total joy!”
