The search for a missing swimmer began on Saturday near Mt Maunganui, with a body found Monday.
A body has been found in the search for a missing swimmer on Mount Maunganui.
The man did not return to shore just after 10 a.m. Saturday after swimming with two other people at Marine Parade, Agent Kurt Waugh said.
A member of the public found a body in Papamoa Beach around 7 a.m. Monday, police said in a statement.
“Right now it is too early to confirm the identity of the person or any other details.

“However, as a result, we will not resume the search for a missing swimmer near Mt Maunganui today.”
The Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service confirmed that a body had been found and thanked all the lifeguards and the community for their hard work and support.
“Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.”
The sea conditions were challenging for the search, with waves of up to one and a half meters causing visibility problems for search engines.
