The Redwood Lotto store has sold 11 winning First Division tickets. The last one was $ 9 million.

One Blenheim Lotto winner says her stomach still turns every time she hears people in town chatting about the $ 9 million windfall.

“They’re talking about me and they don’t even know it,” he said.

The woman and her husband won Powerball First Division and Lotto First Division on Wednesday, November 25 after purchasing a ticket at the Redwood Lotto store.

The woman said that after the draw her husband told her that he had won Powerball, but was not sure where.

“I remember thinking, ‘oh that’s amazing for the winner, and right before Christmas too,'” he said.

The next day, the woman went shopping and decided to check her ticket.

Peter Matthews, owner of the Redwood Lotto Shop, has owned the shop since 1995.

Peter Matthews, owner of the Redwood Lotto Shop, has owned the shop since 1995.

“The machine made noise and they told me I had made $ 9 million. I was completely stunned, ”she said.

“It was so surreal. I kept thinking how I was going to tell my husband that we were millionaires. “

He said that he played regularly and generally bought a Triple Dip.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would ever win. You just don’t think it’s going to be you, ”he said.

“We get excited when we win $ 20, at least pay the next ticket.”

After reviewing their ticket, the couple had dinner and a drink with the family.

Over the next few days, the couple tried to come to terms with their life-changing victory.

“We still can’t believe it’s real, even after looking at our new bank balance,” he said.

The couple planned to do some home renovations, enjoy Christmas with the family, and have a “long, relaxing summer” at Marlborough Sounds while they considered what to do next.

“We would love to go abroad when we can, but for now, we will enjoy our own country while making some plans for the future,” he said.

The ticket was the 11th and 12th First Division victory for the Blenheim store, owned by Peter and Claire Matthews.

The Matthews had owned the store since 1995. Their first big win came in 1997, when a customer made $ 1.5 million.

That ticket had never been claimed.

After learning of last month’s victory, Peter Matthews said he was as surprised as the first time.

“I am really happy that someone has won it from here because it is very good to give money to the community,” he said.

The winning numbers were 35, 3, 29, 14, 2 and 30, with 9 being the extra ball and 9 being the Powerball.

It was the second time in two weeks the Powerball was hit, after a November 11 tie saw a Palmerston North player take home $ 14.3 million.
