Mirza Muratovic of the Phoenix celebrates the goal that will never be seen.
If it wasn’t bad enough, the Phoenix are playing their 2021 A-League home games at Tasman in Wollongong, football fans forced to watch them on TV missed their first goal of the season.
At halftime, midfield rookie Mirza Muratovic, who joined Phoenix from Brisbane Roar, tied the score at 1-1 in what was described as an “absolutely brilliant goal”.
The problem was that the only people who saw it were those from the WIN Stadium. The television screens showing the cover live turned as black as the referee’s shirt.
Not only was the goal not captured live, it was apparently not captured at all by any cameras, although the footage did eventually emerge 17 minutes into the second half.

At halftime, it was left to former Australia goalkeeper Mark Bosnich to tell Fever fans how it happened. And he didn’t do a great job.
Apparently the Phoenix exploded and the ball found its way to Muratovic and then “it was a wonderful shot, it wasn’t hit with great rhythm.”
One can only guess that former goalkeepers hate describing goals.
It all added up to the best goal you’ll ever see in the A-League, we were told, before darkness rose.
