Black Caps Twenty20’s impressive international rookie Devon Conway has been called up to the test team in Hamilton, with goalkeeper BJ Watling battling a hamstring injury.
Coach Gary Stead confirmed on Tuesday that Conway would join the New Zealand team, raising it to 14 before Thursday’s first cricket test against the West Indies at Seddon Park.
Watling picked up what Stead described as “a slight hamstring problem” in the first round of the Ford Trophy on Sunday.
If Watling was ruled out, Conway remained second in line to make his test debut. Stead said that if there was a trade, Tom Blundell would take the gloves and go down to No. 6 with the original batting cover that Will Young will likely open for his own test debut.
