Kyle Jamieson has scored a sensational hat-trick for Auckland at the Plunket Shield.
Playing for Auckland against the Central Districts at Eden Park Outer Oval on the second day of his first-class match Thursday, Jamieson took three consecutive wickets.
Got Tom Bruce caught in the cordon before Dane Cleaver and Brad Schmulian hit clean bowls.
Jamieson’s delivery to fire Cleaver was an outstanding yorker, before churning out an even better ball with a dazzling deflection that backward prodigiously to beat Schmulian and spark wild celebrations from Jamieson and his teammates.
The 25-year-old made his New Zealand debut in February against India in an ODI and then starred in his first two tryouts for the Black Caps against the same opposition, taking nine wickets at 4.33pm, including a bag of five, while also with an average of 46.50 with the bat.
The tall and fast pitcher took his first wicket of innings with the last ball of the first day when he caught his Black Caps teammate Ross Taylor. After 14 bowling overs, Jamieson had figures of 4-33; his best comeback in first class is 8-74.
His hat-trick was notably his third at Eden Park’s Outer Oval in the past four seasons: Matt McEwan won one in 2017/18 for Auckland v Northern Districts, while Ben Lister had a hat-trick for the hosts in 2018 / 19 against Otago.
