Les Mills gym chain has written to members asking them to start paying their fees again, even though they cannot use their facilities.
Gyms will not be able to physically open their doors to members until New Zealand returns to Alert Level 2.
Les Mills members were asked in an email to start paying their membership payments again, independently.
“Our business faces the biggest hurdle in its 52-year history. We expect clubs to only be closed for a month, but unfortunately it won’t. Membership payments will remain on hiatus during alert levels three and four unless choose to restart them. It will be great if we can get to level two in three weeks and be able to open again. “

In exchange, they were offered a three-month free membership for a friend or family.
Business is tough. We understand. Asking your gym members to pay for something they can’t deliver isn’t the right decision. It feels gross. Innovation is required in times like these. Les Mills has the infrastructure to do very well in these times, it seems that they lost the boat.

The call for payments had a backlash online. An email recipient described it as “bold.”
“There are hundreds of organizations literally desperate for [money] to help people get through this time in the face of cuts in government funding [and a global financial crisis] And do you want members to shell out cash for a service you can’t even provide? Boldness is beyond me. “
