The start of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 on Sunday was brought forward 30 minutes as officials braced for rain and possible storms.

The changing weather often plays an intriguing role in the annual Great Race and is set to spice up the weekend action once again in the 2020 edition.

Rains are forecast in Bathurst for Saturday and Sunday.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts four to 10mm on race day, with an 80 percent chance of rain, and possible thunderstorms at all times.

Supercars responded by bringing the start of the 161-lap race up to 11am local time.

The move is designed to cover the possibility of a longer run than usual, in case wet weather brings additional safety cars or even red flags.

At least 50 percent of the scheduled race distance must be completed for a winner to be declared; in which case, if the race cannot be resumed, the results will be taken at the end of the penultimate lap before the action is suspended.

The entire schedule for Sunday has been adjusted, and the 20-minute Supercars warm-up session now begins at 8:30 am local time.

Today’s Supercars action at Mount Panorama will include two practice sessions prior to ARMOR ALL Qualifying, with the top 10 cars advancing to a Shootout tomorrow afternoon.
