Steven Adams has tried for the first time playing against a former NBA team

The New Orleans Pelicans center was in Oklahoma City this week for the first time since he was traded in the offseason when the Pelicans faced the Thunder at Chesapeake Arena.

Adams played his first seven NBA seasons for the Thunder and speaking after the game, a 113-80 win for the Pelicans, Adams shared what it was like to return to his old field.

“It kind of pissed me off when I tipped the ball,” Adams said. “I’m so used to seeing OKC colors and I don’t know that something in my brain changed and I thought ‘oh shit, that’s right, I’m playing for New Orleans.’

“It was a fun time on tip ball, but I was sweet after that.”

Adams had his most productive outing in his short career for the Pelicans against the Thunder on Friday (New Zealand time), scoring 14 points and adding 10 rebounds.

Off the court, his usual New Zealand sense of flair has continued to attract attention, most recently when he opted to use slides in the dead of winter, with lots of snow underfoot.

Since being traded during the offseason, Adams has adjusted well to his new surroundings and has taken on a leadership role in what is a young Pelicans team full of potential. At just 27 years old, Adams is the fourth oldest member of the Pelicans roster and the third longest-serving NBA player, behind guards JJ Redick (now in his sixteenth season) and Eric Bledsoe (twelfth). season).
