Former US President Barack Obama has spoken about the time he spent in quarantine with his family and how he ended up welcoming Malia’s boyfriend.

In an interview with The Bill Simmons Podcast, Obama revealed that the pandemic ended not only bringing the family together under one roof, but also adding new people to their home: Malia Obama’s boyfriend.

The former president, who has daughters Sasha and Malia with his wife Michelle, did not reveal the name of Malia’s boyfriend, but explained that he had to move in with them while he was stuck in the United States due to travel restrictions.

“He’s a wonderful young British man, and he was a bit stuck because there was a visa issue and he had a job set,” Obama said.

The 59-year-old father also admitted that he quite likes his daughter’s boyfriend: “So we took him in and I didn’t want to like him, but he’s a good boy.”

The girls’ father made a new discovery, which he assumes is something fathers of boys have always known: young men can eat a lot.

“The only thing you discover is not a surprise to you, Bill, because you have a son, young people eat,” he said. “It’s weird seeing them eat food. My grocery bill went up about 30 percent,” he added.

The former president also said it was a “blessing” to have his daughters at home with him.

“It’s a blessing because all the teenage stuff is a bit gone now and they just came back and they love you again and they want to spend time with you and they are fun.”

Like many families, the activities that entertained them at the beginning of the confinement did not last as long.

“I think, [like] Many families, we went through that first month where we were playing games every night and doing little craft projects and then little by little they started to get a little bored with us, “Obama added.
