A total of 25 firearms were found in one direction.

Prohibited firearms, a shotgun and a pistol were found during a search of two properties on Auckland’s north shore, police said.

A total of 25 firearms were found in one direction of the Wairau Valley on Friday, while a large quantity of ammunition and cannabis were located in the other.

Detective Inspector Kevin McNaughton, Waitematā Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), said two men had been charged after the raids.

McNaughton said 25 firearms of various calibers were discovered in the first address, including a large number of banned military-style semi-automatic firearms, a shotgun and a pistol.

Numerous boxes of ammunition and methamphetamine were also found on that property.

A significant amount of ammunition and more than 50 cannabis plants were found in the second address, he said.

McNaughton said a 54-year-old man faces a series of firearm charges, including illegal possession of a prohibited firearm, as well as possession of methamphetamine.

He is scheduled to appear in North Shore District Court on November 2.

A second man, also 54, faces charges related to firearms and cannabis.

He must appear in North Shore District Court on October 22.
