Looking for a fisherman who was swept off the rocks at Papanui Point in Raglan on Sunday.
A police spokesman said they were notified around 9:30 a.m. after a report that a man was having difficulty in the water.
“The search has been underway today, including police, coastguards, surf lifeguards, and aerial searches with the rescue helicopter,” a police spokesman said.
“Unfortunately, the man has not been located so far. Bad weather has impeded the search effort and Search and Rescue will assess conditions at Ruapuke Beach to determine next steps. “
David Galuszka of the Raglan Suft Life Saving Club said they had initial reports of the incident around 9:30 a.m.
“There is a fisherman on the rocks at Papanui Point,” he said.
“At this stage they are lost.”
Papanui Point was also the scene of what could be a similar disappearance, when a teenager was dragged off the rocks there.
The site has a notorious reputation and has claimed at least 18 lives.
