OPINION: Our last two were revealed tonight. Bachelor NZ, and it was the end of the road for one of the best singles of this season.
Who? Well, after a particularly punishing build (they’re always long, but this one was looooong), it was… Lana. Art, who still, for some reason, always seems to be on the verge of crying at rose ceremonies, told him to say goodbye, as Lana’s voice-over told us that she had seen him coming.
Oh no! Oh yeah! I was sad too, but not very surprised either. I don’t doubt that Lana would have been engaged to Moses if it had come to the end, but something in her focus made it seem like maybe she was always with one foot in and one foot out. It was not about Moses per se, but about the Single overall structure: I think maybe Lana was unhappy with the whole system and would have preferred to take Moses out for a few beers in Queenstown to find out. Anyway, it’s a shame, I thought they might have had a good chance, but Moses’ decision is his decision. I will miss seeing Lana on this show; she’s down to earth, and was always such a quiet presence to have on screen.

So is it up to Annie and Shenae? That’s right, and it’s these two women who returned to Auckland to hang out with Moses and meet his family.
They started with a concert for seniors. This was awkward to watch, but maybe that just says more about me than it does the show. Moses is a beautiful singer, and I’m sure it would have been amazing to witness this live, but something about the small crowd and the daytime concert made it all feel a bit forced. However, it was very nice to see the woman approach Moses and tell him how beautiful she found “his voice” (not a lie, I’m sure, but maybe she was referring to the man himself).
Annie was quite touched. Then he wiped away some tears, but curiously, Moses noticed that it was Shenae who was able to look him in the eye as he sang.
What else did they do? Later, they met his family and friends. On Waiheke Island, both girls met their extended family and, more importantly, their mother. Now, I love moms. I’m so attracted to moms. They are simply … the best. And Moses’ mother is no exception: a top-tier, five-star boy, absolutely wonderful. He kindly questioned Annie and Shenae about how they felt about Moses, and both discussions seemed to go well, but if I had to choose one I’d say that she thought Shenae seemed the most comfortable and comfortable with Penina, and Penina, on the other hand, seemed to admire Shenae’s strength in the face of the enormous tragedy she had experienced losing her parents. Not that we should be defined by our traumas, but I certainly think it speaks to Shenae’s character that she is so honest, down-to-earth, and personable despite what she’s been through. You could forgive anyone who has been through such enormous pain to withdraw from relationships, but the fact that Shenae is exposing herself requires a lot of guts.
But Penina was not picky. He also admired Annie’s openness and kindness. It was interesting to see the girls being questioned later by Moses’ three best friends, two of whom chose Annie as their most compatible and one who chose Shenae. It will be interesting to see if Moses is serious about his scientific study; They were much more definitive than Penina, but that’s why I love Penina too: Mom knows best, but “the best” often means trusting that your child will make the right decision for himself. (I’m not a mother, but this is what I appreciate about my own mother. Hi, Mom!).
So basically what you’re saying is that it’s anyone’s game? I think both Annie and Shenae are mature enough that they could walk away with their heads held high if they weren’t chosen by Moses; They are both wonderful girls and I think they probably both know deep down that the Single The format is a bit silly at the end of the day. But we all love it despite that, so I can’t wait to see what happens. See you all in the final!
