Stuff understands that the stroller rolled down a driveway and into traffic, where it was hit by a car traveling north.
The emergency services went to the scene and, upon arrival, reported that the baby was in critical condition.
Cyclist Bec Haswell, who witnessed the incident, believed the injured baby was no more than a year old.
He stopped to help, but others were already calling emergency services.
She said: “The stroller was still upright against the front of the car. The capsule [the baby was in] it had scrapes. “
St John Ambulance said a patient was treated at the scene and taken to Starship Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
Detectives were on the scene around 10:30 a.m. to make inquiries, and chalk marks were visible in the northbound lane.
