One person has been repatriated to Australia from Queenstown aboard his own private jet.
The Southern District Board of Health confirmed that a private jet with a pilot and no other crew arrived from Australia on Tuesday and picked up a passenger, before departing again, back to Australia.
It is not known who the passenger was.
The pilot had no interaction with anyone in New Zealand and only disembarked on the runway to refuel and conduct a pre-flight inspection. “Ground personnel were required to wear personal protective equipment and maintain a physical distance of 4 meters,” said an SDHB spokeswoman.

The DHB said this was the first repatriation flight from Queenstown since mid-2020. Between the end of the national shutdown and mid-2020, there were “one or two similar flights,” the spokeswoman said.
A statement from Queenstown Corporate Jets Services said the flight was from Sydney. This was supported by publicly available flight tracking data.
The private plane landed in Queenstown at 12:07 p.m. M. From Tuesday and left at 12:58 p.m. M.
The plane was an Embraer Phenom 300E, with a capacity of between 6 and 10 passengers.
The plane was delivered to Special Mining Services Pty Ltd, an Australian company, in early 2019, according to Embraer.
The aircraft is operated by Flight Options (Australia) Pty Ltd and is based in Sydney.
