Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood churning out spells for the ages to send India into record-breaking ignominy at Adelaide Oval, where tourists finished 9-36 and barely beat the lowest test total of all time.

India resumed 1-9 on the third day of the day-night event, leading by 62 runs.

Virat Kohli’s team crashed to 9-36 in 90 minutes, setting the hosts a goal of just 90 after Cummins (4-21) and Hazlewood (5-8) created utter chaos.

The innings ended when Cummins struck Mohammed Shami on his exposed right arm, causing the latter to retreat injured.

Mayank Agarwal’s nine and Hanuma Vihari’s eight helped India pass 26, which is still the lowest test score in 150 years of test cricket.

But India couldn’t get anywhere near 42, which had been the nation’s lowest score of nearly 550 tests.

Not a single batter reached double figures.

Cummins ignited a barely credible 5-4 collapse on Saturday, putting Australia on the bench to take a 1-0 series lead.

Virat Kohli became Cummins’ fourth victim during the carnage, while the fast-paced man also made Cheteshwar Pujara go out for a duck.

Hazlewood, who clinically cleaned the tail, was on a hat-trick after eliminating Wriddhiman Saha and Ravichandran Ashwin.

“Everything went according to plan,” Hazlewood told Fox Sports.

“The way Patty started out was amazing. The two great grounds [Pujara and Kohli] it set the tone and I just did the same. “
