Auckland’s Dr Rudi Rooftop Bar Shooting Followed Family Harm Incident, Police Say

The shots fired outside the Dr Rudi’s Rooftop bar in central Auckland early Sunday morning followed a family injury incident.

Detective Sergeant Major Mark Franich said police were continuing to investigate the serious incident and would appeal to anyone who witnessed it or recorded images on their phones to come forward.

“We are following positive lines of investigation in relation to a person of interest in this matter,” said Franich.

Police previously searched for an address in central Auckland as part of the investigation.

No arrests have been made at this stage.

Franich said it was being treated as an isolated incident that occurred after a family injury incident at the scene.

A dramatic video taken from inside the bar showed the moments when the shots were fired.

The shots were fired in the lobby in front of Dr. Rudi's rooftop bar.

In the video, apparently taken by someone drinking at the bar, several shots can be heard.

“Discarded glasses!” someone yells, followed by, “Shots, wow, shots.”

Broken glass can be seen raining down on a man after a bullet was fired into the glass ceiling of the lobby.

Several people can then be seen running down the escalators to get out of the venue.
