NXN Kingsland is a development to bring 73 apartments and five townhouses to the center of Auckland.

A woman is still waiting to move into an apartment she bought from the blueprints, two years after it was supposed to be finished.

Johanna McIntosh said her entire life has been put on hold by delays in the NXN Kingsland housing development in Kingsland in central Auckland.

But developer Templeton Group questions the length of the delays, saying the Covid-19 pandemic and the council’s staff shortages are to blame.

References to that move-in date can also be found on Templeton Group founder and CEO Nigel McKenna’s website.

“My life has been in limbo, I feel like I can’t do anything. It puts everything on hold, you can’t plan, ”McIntosh said.

You have rented while you wait for your apartment to be completed and keep most of your belongings in a storage unit.

He said that since 2018, buyers have received three-month updates on the project and the completion date has changed frequently.

“They have not been transparent with us throughout the process,” he said.

“I feel like my deposit means absolutely nothing to them. It means a lot to me, it is my home.

“It’s a lot of money to me that I gave them to build me a house, and they just completely ignored it.”

But Templeton spokeswoman Dani Simpson said that NXN’s estimated completion date was set for December 2020.

“We were hampered by a number of factors, including the combination of ground conditions, complex construction, and in particular Covid 19, which had a six-week impact on us thanks to two closures in Auckland last year,” He said.

“Despite all that, Dominion achieved practical completion in November 2020 ahead of the agreed upon date in December 2020.”

Dominion Construction is the main contractor involved in the development of NXN Kingsland.

Templeton Group says Covid-19 and building regulations have contributed to the delays.

Simpson said titles have been issued for all units and Templeton Group submitted an application for a certificate of code compliance in November, a process that is “nearing completion.”

A code compliance certificate is issued to confirm that all construction work has been completed in accordance with the construction consent issued for the project.

“However, we are not responsible for compliance with the code; the Auckland Council issues them, not us. The council is seriously understaffed, ”he said.

The apartments are “almost finished,” according to a Templeton Group spokesperson.

“The Auckland market has had an absolute collision with major projects being delayed. Commercial Bay, a billion dollar behemoth, was delayed a year and completely swept away the Auckland Council’s code compliance team as we were pursuing code compliance.

“This also aligned with the bigger projects like Sylvia Park [and] Pacify everything by completing at the exact moment. “

Things You have seen a newsletter published by NXN Kingsland in October 2017 that said project completion is “expected to be in July 2019”.

But Simpson said that, as with any large construction project, the completion date is not set in concrete.

“You will notice the term ‘expected’, not ‘guaranteed’,” he said.

“In addition, we now have four of the six code compliance certificates approved, so we are only waiting for the last two from the Auckland Council, so we can initiate an agreement.”
