Police are investigating after a man was found in an Auckland CBD church with a gunshot wound this morning.

Police received a report of a person with a gunshot wound at 7.30 a.m. M.

The incident is understood to have taken place near St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Wyndham St.

A local business owner told the Herald that the church keeper said they had found a person shot outside the church.

He said he did not believe there had been a shooting at the scene.

“Someone was shot and then left in the back of the church.”

The woman said she did not hear any gunshots this morning, but had seen police in the area around 7 a.m.

“It’s scary. It’s like what you’ve seen in a movie.”

A man was found in a vehicle and was taken to hospital in moderate condition, police confirmed.

“The police are currently on the scene conducting investigations into this incident.”

St John said three teams of ambulances responded, including a rapid response unit.

One patient was taken to Auckland City Hospital in moderate condition, a spokesman said.
