A third person is still in the hospital under police surveillance and is seriously injured.

The painstaking investigation is in its second day, with questions still unanswered as to why two immigrants, a man and a woman, were apparently stabbed to death.

“It is very, very devastating,” Auckland Indian Association President Narendra Bhana told 1 NEWS.

Yesterday, the police called the incident a tragedy.

“There will be family members who will be grieving as a result,” said Detective Inspector Scott Beard.

Today that pain has spread to the local indigenous community.

A person taken to the hospital with superficial injuries has been discharged. They have been able to speak to the police and are being helped by supporting the victims.

But another person remains in critical condition and under police surveillance.

Police say they have not been charged, but also say the investigation is still in its early stages.

The Epsom unit in which the couple died is also under surveillance, a house that is a crime scene taken by investigators.

“And they left India in search of a better lifestyle, so it is very sad to see this happen to them,” says Bhana.

He says there are a growing number of people in the community who are preparing to give their support.

“There have been some phone calls, I have already had some phone calls, and at this stage our focus is how, how can we help the family,” says Bhana.

The police will not release the names of the victims while the families are informed. Informing them and completing the formal identifications will take even more days.

“At this time, I would like to extend our message to the community that our thoughts are with you at this difficult time,” says Bhana.

The police are again reminding that community that they are not looking for anyone else.

Autopsies are due today and tomorrow.
