Dramatic footage from an accident scene in Glendowie shows a bus dangling precariously from a road after crashing into a pohutukawa tree.
Jane Phare, a business reporter for the NZ Herald and a witness at the scene, says the bus driver was in shock after leaving Riddell Rd in Glendowie.
“The pohutukawa was demolished,” he says.
“The front windshield [of the bus] it was smashed. “
The bus crossed fiber lines and there was “a lot of oil” on the road.
She says the driver was taken to the hospital and a single elderly passenger was sitting in the back of the bus and suffered a cut.
Three St John vehicles rushed to the scene in Glendowie and transported the two patients to the hospital in moderate condition.
A police spokesman said they were called to the scene near the intersection of Glover Rd at 6.55 p.m., where the passenger was being treated for minor injuries.
