Two people reportedly assaulted a police officer while the officer was attempting to comply with a court order in south Auckland.

The officer was speaking to a man during a routine investigation while they were serving a warrant at a Papakura home, when they were allegedly assaulted.

Superintendent Jill Rogers, Manukau County Police District Commander, said a second person in the home allegedly joined.

“The officer was able to call for urgent help and other members of law enforcement personnel were quickly on the scene,” Rogers said.

Several police cars arrived outside the Heathdale Cres home, where a 37-year-old man was detained.

The officer sustained moderate injuries from the altercation and was taken to a medical facility for evaluation.

“The police are very disappointed by this alleged behavior against a member of our organization who was fulfilling his regular duties and working to keep the community safe,” said Rogers.

Officers were speaking with the second person involved in the incident, Rogers said.

“The other individual is also being talked to and charges are likely to be brought,” Rogers said.

Police were examining the scene and investigations are ongoing, he said.
