Armed Police Respond to Manurewa Firearms Incident After Shot Was Heard

Armed police are responding to an incident in south Auckland after there were reports of a gunshot.

The gunshot was reportedly heard on Christmas Rd in Manurewa, police confirmed they were responding but were unaware of any injuries.

The assailant or assailants had left the scene and had not yet been located, a police spokesman said.

An examination of the scene was taking place and the police were speaking to witnesses, one at the scene saying The Herald one property had been cordoned off and at least three police cars were parked outside.

Officers were on the scene making inquiries and the Eagle helicopter had been flying over the suburb.

Earlier in the week, fake shots and explosions at a film set in Ōtara alarmed many in the community.

The shots were part of the production of the Netflix series. Cowboy bebop, who has been filming in a warehouse in East Tamaki.

It came just weeks after a series of gang-related shootings in the area.
