A Levin man was beaten after trying to save his cubs from theft.

A 62-year-old amputee was beaten while trying to stop his 8-week-old Rottweiler puppies from being stolen, but his biggest concern remains their well-being.

The man, who did not want to be named, said two men and a woman came to his home on Cambridge St, Levin, at 8.15pm on Wednesday wanting to buy the puppies.

He sensed something was wrong and told them that he did not want to sell the three puppies. When he turned to walk away, one of the men jumped the fence and things “got ugly.” The trio took two of the dogs.

A puppy was returned Friday after it was taken to a veterinarian in Palmerston North.

62-year-old amputee attacked while trying to stop thieves from stealing his Rottweiler puppies in Levin.

The man tried to defend himself with a piece of metal and save his cubs, only to be beaten, thrown to the ground and kicked in the face.

Half of his face was bruised when Stuff I visited him on Friday. His hand was swollen from breaking his fall to the ground, and his ribs were sore from being kicked.

“I never expected something like this to happen. Nothing like this has happened before. “

He said he should have known something was up when the woman left in the middle of the conversation. He later discovered that she had disconnected one of his three security cameras.

He said that his cubs were like his children.

“I helped bring them into the world.”

A Rottweiler puppy, Blue, is returned to his home in Levin after being robbed.

He said the cubs’ mother slept them when they were born and had to check them every 10 minutes to ensure their survival.

One was born dead, another was murdered and managed to resuscitate one with a towel and rubbing his heart.

One room in his house is dog-ready with a king-size bed and French doors to let them out.

He said the dogs were worth around $ 2,000 and were stolen for sale.

His suspicions turned out to be true when a family who bought one of the puppies took him to the Palmerston North vet for a checkup.

The vet scanned his microchip and realized it had been stolen.

“My only saving grace was that they were splintered [the week before], “the man said.

Puppy Blue returned home to his mother Dot.

Police called him at 10 a.m. Friday and said they had found one. At 11:30 in the morning they left the puppy.

“It was exciting when the puppy came back.”

The puppy that was left behind was excited, and they were playing and jumping.

The man said the dogs’ mother, Dot, had changed since the puppies were taken, and that she was more apprehensive, wary and in need of more comfort than usual.

He has raised 20 to 30 Rottweilers in the last 10 years as family pets. He raised a litter of each bitch and liked to keep one of the puppies for himself.

He was fussy about where the dogs were staying and would keep in touch to see how they were doing.

Police were investigating the case and no charges had been filed, a spokeswoman said.

“Police investigations resulted in one of the puppies being located this morning and has now been returned to its owner. The second cub is still exceptional. “

St John treated the man for injuries at the scene.
