The drivers had unusual company in Wainuiomata in Lower Hutt this afternoon when a car passed by others carrying another car on the roof.
Wellingtoniana Lori Cowan was a passenger in a car when she looked out the window at the amazing sight.
He posted a photo of what he had witnessed on Facebook, with the caption: “Only in Wainui, this is how they tow cars.”
“I just thought ‘what the heck ?! Is it a car on top of a car?'” Cowan said to the Herald.
“I couldn’t believe I had to take a photo, I guess they had the hood up at the front to provide additional support.”
Cowan says there were no straps or ropes around the car to keep it secure, only the hood “held” it.
He added that the car “was going very slow and sticking to the left.”
The photo received a flood of comments on Facebook as soon as it was posted, with many saying they were “blown away” by the level of ingenuity.
It is not known how the vehicle was placed on top of the other, nor how they lowered it at the other end.
