Wellington Phoenix has said goodbye to another young All White.
Stuff understands that forward Callum McCowatt will not return for a second season in the A-League after agreeing to join Danish 1st Division Helsingør in a move that will see him reunite with former Kiwi teammates Elijah Just and Dalton Wilkins.
The highly rated 21-year-old joined Phoenix after setting the national league on fire with the champions Eastern Suburbs, scoring a whopping 21 goals in 16 games, including a hat-trick in the final.
SPORT OF HEAVEN
Callum McCowatt inspired Phoenix to a major victory over Glory.
However, despite scoring in their international debut against the Republic of Ireland last year, the Phoenix were unable to unlock McCowatt’s true potential and he was in and out of the starting lineup.

But perhaps his most memorable moment came in round 27, when McCowatt set up Gary Hooper’s starter in a 2-1 win over Perth Glory with a sublime long-distance pass after gaining possession deep in his own half.
McCowatt chose to stay in Australia at the end of Phoenix’s A-League season before flying to Europe to finalize his move to Helsingør.
Backed by American investors, Helsingør recently won promotion to the 1st Division, which is one notch below the Danish Super League.
McCowatt’s departure comes on the heels of Liberato Cacace’s transfer to Belgian Pro League club Sint-Truiden.
His contract expired on August 31.
