Alfriston homicide case: woman found dead in burning car named by police

One woman who was found dead in a burning car in south Auckland two weeks ago was Chontel Wiki-O’Brien, 23.

Police have been conducting a homicide investigation into the death of the young woman, Clendon.

Detective Inspector Chris Barry of the Manukau Counties Criminal Investigation Branch said the investigation team was appealing over sightings of the white Mitsubishi Outlander in which Wiki-O’Brien’s body was found.

The car had also been spotted in and around Weymouth on November 3, as well as on Holmes Rd in Manurewa and in an industrial area of ​​Takanini, near Oakleigh Avenue, late at night on November 3 and in the first hours of November 4.

Barry said police continue to support Wiki-O’Brien’s whānau.

“Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”

The homicide investigation into Wiki-O’Brien’s death is still ongoing.

A 31-year-old man was previously arrested in connection with his death and charged with arson.

He appeared in Manukau District Court charged with intentionally setting his own vehicle on fire “knowing there was likely to be a danger of death,” according to a charging document provided by the court.

The relationship between the arrested man and Wiki-O’Brien is not yet known.
