An Albert Town man appeared in Invercargill District Court on drug and firearms charges.

A man facing charges as part of a police operation called “significant disruption of a national supply chain” was released on bail and told not to associate with gang members.

The 31-year-old from Albert Town appeared in Invercargill District Court on Tuesday charged with selling cannabis and supplying methamphetamine in Wanaka between March 3, 2020 and November 6, 2020, for illegally possessing two sawed-off shotguns. , failing which to assist in a police search in Queenstown and possession of methamphetamine in Auckland between 4-6 November 2020.

Defense attorney Hugo Young indicated that he would request the name suppression.

The man appeared through an audiovisual link and Judge Russell Walker granted him bail.

The matter is expected to be recalled in Queenstown District Court in December.

Bail conditions include the man not contacting any gang member or associate, and a temporary order was also issued so that he cannot communicate with certain family members.

A curfew was also imposed and he had to surrender his passport.

On Monday, Central Otago Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw, in a statement, said the arrest was the culmination of a two-month investigation into drugs in the area.

With this operation, the police had caused a significant disruption to a national supply chain that had been responsible for immeasurable damage, Shaw said.

Police investigations are ongoing.
