Yesterday Australia announced that New Zealanders can travel to New South Wales or the Northern Territory without having to self-quarantine, starting later this month.
In response, Air New Zealand says it is lifting its limits on several of its flights to Sydney, opening more than 12,000 seats on flights to the city between now and January.
Chief Executive Officer Greg Foran says the company “understands the overriding need” to keep people safe at border reopens.
“Kiwis who want to reconnect with family and friends in the Northern Territory and New South Wales will welcome this news and we look forward to hearing more about a complete Tasmania safe zone soon,” he told 1 NEWS.
Currently, the bubble is one-way: to Australia, from New Zealand. There are no plans yet to reciprocate and make traveling from Australia to New Zealand so easy.
Jacinda Ardern said today that the state of New South Wales is still warning its population that “at this stage they are not clear if they still have community transmission.”
“And that is key for us, one of our criteria is 28 clear days, so there is still a little time before we consider it safe,” says the Labor leader.
