There is a new case of Covid-19 in controlled isolation in New Zealand today and there are no cases in the community, the Health Ministry confirmed.

Today’s update, the second in a row without a case in the community, was provided in a statement from the Ministry.

The new case arrived from India via Singapore on October 31.

The ministry also included an additional update on the evidence of the close contacts of the two cases that make up the November quarantine group.

The group began when a member of the Defense Forces, dubbed Case A, contracted the virus while working at the Jet Park Hotel in Auckland.

One of the contacts in Case A contracted the virus after meeting with them last Wednesday. This person has been called case B.

They flew back to Wellington on Thursday, visiting various locations at Auckland airport and a Wellington restaurant the next day, before their infection was detected.

The Ministry said the remaining close contact from Case A returned a negative test result.

Of the 55 identified close contacts from Case B, 48 have tested negative and the remainder are pending.

Genome sequencing for Case A showed a direct link to two returnees at the Auckland quarantine facility, but the nature of the contact is under investigation.

There are 52 active cases of Covid-19 in Aotearoa, which has had 1,631 confirmed cases.

Yesterday, New Zealand labs completed 2,960 tests, bringing the national total of tests to 1,142,938.
