In the optimistic and progressive poem, Roberts talks to a boy about what the world was like before the virus took over.

People were too dependent on technology, there was rampant overconsumption, and global warming was a major problem.

But when the pandemic hit and people were forced to lock themselves up, they started talking a lot more, especially to their loved ones. The planet began to recover as factories and industries halted.

The closure of much of the world in the past month had provided a great opportunity to reorganize the world order, Roberts told the Herald.

“Let’s think constructively: Are there steps we can take as individuals or as societies that decrease people’s suffering and increase joy?” he said.

“If you were to target something, I think it would be a good place to start and you can see what happens after that.”

Born in Auckland to Welsh parents traveling the country, Roberts now lives in the UK.

He was excited to be doing an interview with a New Zealand media outlet, he said, due to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. “She is not perfect, she is not a prophet, but she is doing a very good job.”

Due to the confinement in England, he said he was able to get to know his younger brothers Cai and Sara better than at any other time in the past seven years. The boy in the video is his younger brother.

Roberts said he was not looking for a pat on the back for his work and was very excited about the millions of people who were embracing the poem’s ideals.

“Millions of people [are] saying that I am prepared to subscribe to the idea that an optimistic outlook could be a better strategy, “he said.

“From what I know of the past, there have been some incredibly dark moments that people have been able to overcome.

“All I think it takes is being able to access a ray of hope, it doesn’t have to be a lot.”
