Oscar winner Nicolas Cage signed to play Joe Exotic on a controversial-based show Tiger king star, According to reports.

Exchange publication Variety says the show will be eight episodes long and based on an article in the magazine Texas Monthly entitled Joe Exotic: A dark journey into the world of a wild man.

The article was published in June 2019, when the popular Netflix series focused on Joe Exotic was in production, but before its release.

Nicolas Cage has signed on to play Joe Exotic in an upcoming scripted series.

According to Variety the Cage series “will live in the lion’s den with Joe, explore how he became Joe Exotic and how he lost himself to a character of his own making.”

There is not yet a network or platform connected to the project in the US. So it’s not clear if it will air in New Zealand or where.

This is the second scripted project that explores the Tiger king universe currently in the works.

Saturday night live and Ghostbusters Star Kate McKinnon will play Joe Exotic’s nemesis Carole Baskin on a podcast-based show Exotic Joe, who is also about to find a home.

Netflix released the seven-part documentary series Tiger king the 20th of March. According to Nielson’s rankings, it was viewed by 34.3 million people during its first ten days of launch, making it one of Netflix’s most successful releases.
