A New Zealand manufacturing company has made an effort to move more of its business to the Kiwi coast from China, which will create not only more jobs but also higher quality products.

New Zealand Sock Company Managing Director Euan Sparrow said things It now manufactures fewer products in China after making significant improvements at its Ashburton headquarters.
“We moved some production to China two years ago due to price problems,” Sparrow told Stuff.
“Now we have brought that production to New Zealand.”
The company said it installed high-tech Italian machinery before New Zealand’s Level 4 alert blockade, which not only allowed more locally-made jobs, but also led them to expand their business by starting to make merino masks.
There are also bonuses for its main product, with socks made here of a higher quality than that made in Asia.
“We can make them in Ashburton for the same price as in China,” added Sparrow.
The reason all of this is possible is the new Italian machinery installed at Ashburton, which reduced the cost of every sock made and allowed for more design innovation, ultimately leading to the expansion of the company’s face mask.

Now all that remains is for more retailers, such as Kathmandu and Farmers, to reopen so that more of the Kiwi general public can buy products from the NZ Sock Company. When they reopen, Sparrow hopes Kiwis will continue the recent trend of buying products made in New Zealand.
“I think those of us who stay in New Zealand manufacturing have a much better future with the public realizing that manufacturing in New Zealand is really for all of us to survive.”
