Boris Johnson welcomed the birth of his son on April 29.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson and fiance Carrie Symonds have named their baby Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson in honor of his grandparents and doctors who saved the life of the UK leader when he was hospitalized with Covid-19.
Symonds made the announcement on her Instagram page on Saturday, posting a photo of her cradling her 3-day-old son and explaining the name choice. She praised the maternity team at University College Hospital in London and said “her heart is full.”
“We introduce Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson, born 04.29.20 at 9am,” he wrote in the post. “Wilfred after Boris’ grandfather, Lawrie after my grandfather, Nicholas after Dr. Nick Price, and Dr. Nick Hart, the two doctors who saved Boris’s life last month.”
The birth came just days after Johnson returned to work after his coronavirus hospitalizations. He spent a week at St Thomas Hospital in London, including three nights in intensive care.

Johnson was present for the birth but returned to work at 10 Downing St within hours amid the ongoing pandemic. Johnson’s office said it would take paternity leave later in the year.
Johnson, 55, and Symonds, 32, announced their engagement in February and said they are expecting a baby in the summer.
Wilfred is the third baby born to an acting British Prime Minister this century. Tony Blair and David Cameron’s wives had children while holding their husbands.
