The game introduces players to Eivor, a “ferocious Viking assailant raised in tales of battle and glory.” Eivor, which can be personalized as a man or as a woman, leads a group of Nordic men who have been expelled from Norway for “endless wars and dwindling resources in the 9th century CE”.
Their journey sees them crossing the North Sea and traveling to England, where players must “forge a new future for their clan, reviving the ruthless fighting style of the Viking warriors with a revamped combat system that includes the weapons capabilities of double wielded against a greater variety of enemies than ever. “
“With few resources at their disposal, players can raid anywhere promising they see from the shoreline using their ship to gain much-needed wealth and resources,” Ubisoft explains in a press release. “As the Vikings begin to settle in their new home, they meet resistance from the Saxons, including King Aelfred of Wessex, who denounces them as pagans and appears to be the sole ruler of a civilized England. Against all odds, Eivor must do whatever it takes to keep Valhalla within reach. “
Creative Director Ashraf Ismail added: “We can’t wait for players to experience the incredible Viking journey that awaits them. Being in Eivor’s boots as a Viking attacker and clan leader, players will face the conflicts of establishing a new home in him in the midst of a power struggle for control of England. “
This large-scale adventure is what Ismail has specialized in for years. He previously served as game director for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Origins.
