Holden fans have gathered by the thousands to celebrate the Australian brand in Timaru.
The southern city of Canterbury hosted some 150 vehicles from across New Zealand over Easter weekend for the 16th annual Holden New Zealand national show.
South Canterbury Holden Club President Toni Gilbert said the three-day event was highlighted with around 5,000 people attending the car show at the Southern Trust Events Center on Saturday.
While the nationals generally had 70 vehicle entrances, and the rules state that all must be covered for the display, Gilbert had requested special permission from the Federation (NZ Holden) to have some of the cars outside, as the organizers initially They thought they could only fit 80 in the stadium.
“We ended up putting 95 cars inside and the rest outside in a fenced-in area.”
The money raised from the entrance fees to the event will be distributed among various charities, he said.
Gilbert, who owns several Holdens, said the cars arrived on Friday and the trial began at lunchtime that day.
Approximately 300 people attended a meet and greet at Gilbert’s property in Normanby, south of Timaru on Friday night.
On Sunday, attendees went on a cruise to Pleasant Point and Geraldine.
“This is a first for Timaru and the response has been excellent; It has been an incredible event and I want to especially thank the South Canterbury Holden Club ”.
