A neighbor on a suburban street in Taupō says that a man who died there was a “kind and generous person.”
Police launched a homicide investigation following the death at a home in Arthur Crescent.
Police named him Friday afternoon as George Christopher Cross, 37, of Taupō.
A 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder.
Police were on the scene on the quiet suburban street Friday, conducting an examination of the scene.
A neighbor says that the man who died was a good friend of hers and that he was the most “kind and generous” person.
“The kids loved him, he was so good with kids.”
Neighbor Ravendran Subarmani said his wife had heard their dogs barking around 11 p.m. Thursday night, but nothing else.
Police said officers responded to reports of a serious assault on Arthur Crescent shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday night.
A man at the address died shortly after the officers arrived, a police spokesman said.
The arrested person will appear in Rotorua District Court on Saturday, April 3.
