Greer was involved in one of four fatal accidents on the Waikato and Bay of Plenty roads since the beginning of the Easter holidays.

One person died after a motorcycle and car accident in Waimangu on Saturday, closing the state highway for some time while an examination of the scene was conducted.

Another was killed during a truck-car collision on State Highway 27 in Kaihere and another person died during a serious accident on State Highway 2 in Mangatāwhiri, both on Thursday night.

There was also a serious accident along State Highway 2 in Athenree Gorge on Friday, where three people were taken to hospital.

In 2020, there were zero deaths during the Easter holiday period, for the second time in history.

Easter fell while the country remained locked in to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The country had its first recorded fatality-free Easter period on the roads in 2012.

The official Easter holiday period for 2021 runs from 4 p.m. on April 1 to 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
